Open Water 3 Day Course Schedule

On the first day, we come and collect you from your hotel lobby between 08.00-08.30 am. Your scuba diving instructor will start the day off by doing some theory lessons in the classroom, followed by practical lessons in the scuba swimming pool. By the end of the day, you will have a basic understanding of the diving equipment and feel comfortable underwater in the swimming pool.

On the second day and third days, we transfer you from your hotel between 07.00-07.30 am to Chalong pier to join the day trip boat. We make two dives a day on both days – you are going to be amazed at what lies under the surface.

The first two dives will be to a maximum of 12 meters and the final 2 dives on day three will be to a maximum of 18 meters.

Yes, when you book a PADI scuba diving course with Thailand Divers, you can rest assured that you are fully insured for all scuba diving activities while you are with us. We register all of our students with DiveAssist.org, a leading provider of scuba diving insurance. This means that you will receive a personal scuba diving insurance policy sent to your email address after signing up for the course.

We provide this insurance to all of our students because we want to make sure that you are safe and protected while you are learning to scuba dive. We also want to give you peace of mind so that you can focus on enjoying your course.

Why is having scuba diving insurance important?

Most travel insurance policies do not cover scuba diving below 8 meters. This is because scuba diving is considered to be an extreme sport. However, our scuba diving insurance policy covers you for a wide range of scuba diving-related accidents and illnesses, including decompression sickness (DCS), barotrauma, nitrogen narcosis, oxygen toxicity, search and rescue costs, medical expenses, hyperbaric treatment costs, and air evacuation costs.

The insurance document you will receive from DiveAssist.org is a “Schedule of Insured Membership.” It contains a brief summary of the coverage, including the following:

  • Immediate Emergency Medical Expenses: €50,000
  • HBO Treatment: €50,000
  • Air Evacuation/Medical Repatriation: €30,000
  • Search and Rescue: €30,000
  • Additional Transport Accommodation: €50,000
  • Civil Liability: €150,000

It is important to note that this is just a brief summary of coverage. For full details of your coverage, including the Definitions, Provisions, and Exclusions that apply, please click here. Diver Accident Insurance DocumentDiver Insurance Policy Wording Document

If you have any questions about your scuba diving insurance policy, please do not hesitate to contact us at Thailand Divers. We are here to help you understand your coverage and to make sure that you have everything you need to have a safe and enjoyable scuba diving experience.

If you are planning to take a PADI scuba diving course in Thailand, we encourage you to book with Thailand Divers. We are committed to providing our students with the highest quality training and the best possible experience. Course prerequisites:

Able to swim, Medically fit for diving, Comfortable in the water

During the first day of the PADI Open Water Diver course, your scuba instructor will ask you to:
Tread or float in water for 10 minutes and swim for 300 metres with mask, fins and snorkel on in the pool

Minimum age: 10 years

For ages 10 – 14, they will gain the Junior PADI Open Water Diver certification. Junior Open Water Divers automatically become Open Water Divers at age 15.

Scuba diving is not as intimidating as it may appear, and with fully qualified PADI instructors at Thailand Divers, all participants will be in safe hands. There are three basic underwater skills: kicking, breathing and floating. Of course, other concepts exist, such as knowledge and understanding of the equipment and safety procedures. Most people find this straightforward and will all be covered in scuba diving class. The critical part is listening to the instructor and taking their advice. Part of the PADI Open Water Course will be to practise water and equipment skills in a controlled environment until individuals are ready to go out, so there is no need to worry.

The equipment may appear daunting, but everyone will be taught what each piece is and how to use it. Many may already be familiar with the mask, snorkel and fins from snorkelling but not so familiar with the scuba unit. Confidence will grow as members familiarise themselves with the air cylinder, which contains the compressed breathing gas, a regulator to breathe through and a buoyancy control jacket that allows the diver to float or maintain the dive depth.

The minimum age for the PADI Open Water course is ten years old.

Padi Open Water Course requires a minimum level of health and fitness. Anyone, regardless of age, with shortness of breath, blurred vision, or any form of chest pain may need to reconsider diving. Avoid disappointment, download and review the Diver Medical form to ensure you won’t need a physician’s approval to dive before enrolling in the PADI Open Water course.

We understand that sometimes things come up and you may need to cancel your booking. We will do our best to accommodate your request and move your booking to a different date if possible. However, if this is not possible, we will issue you a refund according to the following policy:

  • For cancellations made more than 7 days in advance of your start date = 50% refund.
  • For cancellations made within 7 days of your start date, no refund will be issued.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

You should be relatively comfortable in the water to enjoy scuba diving although it’s normal to be a little nervous. If you generally feel comfortable in the deep end of a swimming pool you will likely have fun diving.

To get your Padi Open Water course Certification you’ll need to pass a watermanship assessment for scuba diving which in general means you should be able to tread water/ float for 10 minutes and swim 200 meters (or snorkel 300 meters) without stopping. There is no time limit and you can use any swimming strokes that work for you.

Of course, people can still dive if they wear glasses; one option is to wear contact lenses. Daily disposables are a good idea in case one is lost; you will have backups. Purchasing a prescription mask is recommended if contact lenses are not desirable, allowing perfect sight whilst exploring the beautiful marine life. If being long-sighted is the issue, then appropriate stickers can be bought that can be placed on the lower part of the mask. It is advised to purchase these before travelling.

Here at Thailand Divers, we offer many courses, one of which is the PADI Open Water Course, the most popular course worldwide. Divers can dive to a maximum of twelve metres on the first two dives and then a maximum of eighteen metres after that (twelve metres for 10-11year-olds). Of course, nobody has to dive to the maximum depth and participants are encouraged to speak to the instructor if there are any concerns.

As divers move beyond the first certification course and gain experience and confidence, the depth of dives can increase.

Ear pain is a common complaint amongst Free Divers but is also associated with Scuba Diving. It is caused by the pressure difference within the middle ear rather than the external pressure as the diver dives down. Scuba divers must ensure they equalise at each decompression stop when possible, which will help prevent this pain.

While we may not be able to accommodate every requirement please let us know in advance and we’ll make every effort to ensure there is food available for you. In addition, we can help you store your own food on the trip if necessary.

Absolutely! While some places use amateurs or fresh out of school dive guides, we use local experienced experts. Our concern for your safety is paramount and we take pride in our staff’s experience and professionalism.

The PADI Open water diver license is a worldwide diving license and is valid for life. There are no yearly membership fees and you can scuba dive in any country in the world.
