When you enroll in a
PADI National Geographic Open Water Diver course with us here at Thailand Divers, you are taking the first step towards a lifetime of underwater exploration.
PADI National Geographic Open Water Diver is the most widely recognized and respected scuba diving rating in the world, and will give you the skills you need to safely enjoy the aquatic world.
As a certified
PADI National Geographic Open Water Diver you are able to dive with a buddy, independent of a professional, anywhere in the world to a maximum depth of 18 meters.
Thailand Divers has an extensive range of multi-lingual instructors, so no matter where you come from the
PADI National Geographic Open Water can be completed in your language.

8.00am: Meet your instructor at the dive center and complete sections 1, 2 and 3 of the PADI Open Water Manual and DVD.
Section 1: The Underwater World, Dive Equipment, Scuba Systems, The Buddy System, Confined Water Dive Preview.
Section 2: Adapting to the Underwater World, Respiration, Dive Equipment, Buddy System: Communication and Procedures, Confined Water Dive Preview.
Section 3: The Dive Environment, Dive Planning, Boat Diving, Problem Management, Confined Water Dive Preview, General Open Water Skills.
Pool Work: This is where the real fun starts!

In the afternoon you will be off to the purpose-built diving swimming pool to put into practice what you have learnt in the classroom.
Once we have assembled the scuba gear and done our buddy checks it is time for your first breath underwater.
We start in the shallow end and once you feel comfortable then we are off to the deep end.

Once you feel comfortable under the water we will start going through the confined water diving skills which we have reviewed in the morning in the classroom. This prepares you for the open water dives the next day.
The day normally finishes around 4pm, but if you require more time to practice in the swimming pool then this is not a problem as the day finishes when you are ready.

7.30am:
We come and collect you from your hotel lobby and transfer you by one of our air-conditioned mini buses to our day trip diving boat.
Your PADI dive instructor will be waiting for you on the boat, and after a short briefing on the boat and the facilities on-board it is time for some breakfast which will be freshly prepared for you by the boat crew.
Whilst making our way to the amazing coral reefs surrounding the islands south of Phuket, you will have an hour or so with your instructor to go though the objectives of the first dive and the safety procedures and checks before diving.
Once we have arrived at the dive sites now it is time to get the scuba gear on, do a buddy check and now you are ready for your first scuba dive on one of the best places in the world to scuba dive.

You are going to be amazed at what you can see down there; Corals soft and hard, millions of tropical fish and much, much more.
Open Water dive 1: This is a fun dive with no skills, just floating around weightlessly taking in the underwater beauty of Thailand, to a maximum depth of 12 meters and maximum time 50 minutes.
Once you are back on board a hot buffet lunch will be served by the boat crew and this gives you time to relax with your instructor and discuss how the dive went and an assessment of your diving skills- don't forget to log your dives.
After an hour or so then it is time for the second dive of the day, which like the first is a maximum time of 50 minutes and a maximum depth of 10 meters. On this dive you will perform a few dive skill exercises with your class mates and the instructor.

Once you are back on the boat we will go through the cleaning procedures of the dive equipment and then relax in the sun maybe with a cold beer and complete Sections 4 and 5 of the Open Water manual which covers:
Section 4: Dive Accessories, Health for Diving, Breathing Air at Depth, Dive Tables and Dive Computers.
Section 5: Special Dive Table and Computer Procedures, Using a Dive Computer, Basic Compass Navigation, Continuing Your Adventure, Using the Recreational Dive Planner (RDP), Dive Safety Practices Summary.
Once we are back at the port it's then back aboard the transport and we will return you to your hotel around 5pm- leaving you time to do some self-study in the evening if needed for the next day.

Just like Day 2 we collect you from your hotel at 7.30am and transfer you to the day trip boat.
We will be going to another dive site surrounded by coral reefs to complete the final two dives of the PADI Open Water course: the dives will to a maximum depth of 18 meters.
Once you have finished Section 5 then it is time to relax and plan the final day of the course with your instructor.
Once back on the transport we return you back to your hotel.
Just like Day 2 we collect you from your hotel at 7.30am and transfer you to the day trip boat.
As part of the National Geographic Open Water Diver course, you fine-tune your buoyancy and hone your navigation skills,
then set off on your exploration project. Whether it’s a survey of
the coral, plant life or a study of water temperature variation, this project is
your chance to think, observe and document like those who dive for
science and discovery.

After the days diving it is then time to relax and go over the last four days with your instructor with a celebratory beer or soft drink as now you are a PADI National Geographic Open Water Diver.
Once back on the transport it is back to the dive center to receive your PADI National Geographic Open Water license.

Anyone interested in diving or learning to dive should check out Sunrise Diving on Patong Beach. The staff is very nice and extremely professional. The equipment is in excellent condition and well maintained.
I was there during the holidays and took the open water course just on an impulse. It was one of the best experiences I've ever had. I absolutely loved it there and hope to go back and dive again in that clear, warm water, and later, hang out in front of the shop at sunset on the beach with a "cold one" talking story with "the dive boys".
After being back to the US for a few days, we just wanted to write a few words to recommend Sunrise Diving in Phuket. We did the open water certification course with them and had a wonderful experience. The open water dives were fabulous and the instructors were a pleasure to learn from.
They shared a lot of their personal experiences with us which made the course even more interesting. Too bad it is so far for us to do the advance open water certification with them. We will do that closer to home but will go back to Phuket for a dive trip to the Similan islands with Sunrise Diving.

Me and 2 friends completed our open water course with steven and brian what a time, the patience was second to none.
Excellent pair of guys as was everyone at the center all easy to talk to and get a long with. This center is a definite must for all travelers wishing to learn or to follow up diving. A+++++
Sunrise Diving is perfect for a "virgin" diver. I had dived only once before successfully at the Barrier Reef, Australia and had a failed attempt in the Maldives. But Sunrise Diving cleared all my doubts and anxiety and showed me a different world.
My instructor was particularly good at calming you down, but equally firm on the ocean floor when he is taking you through the paces and exercises required for qualification as a scuba diver.
I highly recommend Sunrise Diving. All in all quite perfect.
