A famous viewpoint in the Similans, Donald Duck Bay, (also known as Ao Guerk) has a rock that looks like a boot, or a ducks head, depending on who is describing it, close to Turtle Rock. As this is where the National Park office is located, there are always many boats moored around this bay. Although there are many tourists, conditions underwater are fine for diving, particularly in the northern side which has a few exposed rocks that extend away from the island. The outer sand depth is about 20 meters. Around the pinnacles is an area of flat sand and a few corals. Close to the rocks, there are patched hard corals. The rocky areas have soft corals and sea fans, particularly the outer pinnacles to the southwest. In addition, there are swim- throughs on the western side.
Current is always mild, as the bay is sheltered.
After dark, divers can find tiny interesting creatures including several kinds of coral crabs, shrimp, squid, nudibranchs, and big lobsters hiding in crevices. In addition, there are reef fish sleeping along the coral reefs, such as parrotfish sleeping in mucous cocoons, and many kinds of groupers are also a common sight. Here you may also have the opportunity to see a nurse shark hunting for crustaceans at night. This sight has many sea turtles.
This dive is good for doing sunset dives or night dives. The entry point is near the northern pinnacles. If your boat moors close to the pinnacles, you can start your dive from the mooring line and return to the boat very easily. When doing a night dive, avoid going in the swim-throughs. Do not attempt to disturb any marine life by touching them or by flashing your dive torch too long at them as they will probably be sleeping. You should mark your boat position clearly to ensure a safe return, because many boats use this wide-flat area for stationing.
