Banana Bay.

Possibly getting its name from the abundance of banana trees that grow on the bay, the east of Koh Racha Noi Island is named "Banana Bay". This is an easy dive site, with a clear shallow flat area starting from 3 - 10 meters, and the hard coral reef sloping gently to 25 meters with staghorn coral occupying most of the area punctuated by white powdery sand.

Like the other dive-sites of Racha Noi island, reef fish such as fire gobies, triggerfish, butterflyfish and colourful fairy basslets are often found on top of the staghorn coral. Small schools of yellowtail barracuda and snappers are often seen here.

In the shallows, you can find giant morays, other types of moray eels, black and white snappers, hawksbill turtles and green turtles. On occasions you might spot great barracuda and seasnakes. The deeper waters, on the other hand may present you the opportunity to see big fish like leopard sharks, manta rays and even whale sharks.

Marina Bay.

Formed from granite rock, the bay in the mid west of Racha Noi island is carpeted with leather corals and a mixture of sea fans, sea whips, fire corals and hard corals such as pore corals.

The dive can start from the sandy, rubble bottom bay reaching depths of 18 meters at the bottom, or from the rocky reef next to the south of the bay where you can see some emerging rocks which slope down to 30 meters. There are many swim-throughs at this site waiting to be explored, but often there is only time for one or two in a dive.diving thailand

Parrotfish, butterflyfish and fusiliers such as neon fusilier and lunar fusilier are quiet common in this area. In the sandy bottom of the bay, you may also spot stingrays, turtles and scissortail gobies hovering in pairs.

Take a closer look at the rocks, and you may discover flatworms, nudibranchs and pipefish. In the deeper parts you might also see a nurse shark hiding among the rocks, or have a surprise encounter with a manta ray.

Bay 3.

scuba dviing phuket thailandThe reef near bay 3 consists mainly of rock and pore corals, and is separated from staghorn reef by a rock ridged border at the south end of the reef. The sudden change from hard coral and rocky bottom to sandy bottom is a good indication that you have entered bay 3. In fact, apart from a brief scattering of pore coral and some coral heads in the shallower waters, bay 3 has a mostly sandy bottom, which is a great place to see turtles gliding over the sand.

The reef area has a moderate current running in a north - south direction and vice versa. However, the bay area has no or a very mild current, making it very suitable for beginners.

Reef fish such as butterflyfish, angelfish, wrasse and parrotfish are common sights. Cornet fish are also spotted regularly and divers may get to see trumpet fish swimming by the sides of groupers. Boxer shrimp and dancing shrimp can be found inside crevices or even inside pore corals.

On the reef slopes, yellowback fusiliers and yellow goat fish can sometimes be seen swimming in big schools.
